📊 Looking for ways to integrate data analysis into scientific inquiry?

TERC researchers Andee Rubin and Gillian Puttick, with collaborators, recently published “Using Existing Data to Investigate Ecosystem Change” in The Science Teacher. The article describes how ninth-grade students used real-world data to investigate the dramatic rise of wildebeest and buffalo populations in the Serengeti between 1960 and 1975. Along the way, students interpreted scatterplots, evaluated evidence, and developed explanations for ecosystem change.

The article also offers practical tips for teachers looking to incorporate data analysis into scientific sensemaking.
