After years of saying how badly I wanted a macro lens, I finally sprang for a Tamron 90mm f/2.8. If you're not a photographer, what that means is I can take really up-close shots of detailed things like mushrooms and spring ephemerals.

Of course, when it was delivered, it proceeded to rain for several days. But the sun always comes back out, and Wednesday was the perfect day to get out and get some good shots. The biodiversity in Ann Arbor is beautiful. I love this lens already and I can't wait to keep practicing with it and really dial in how I want to use it. Here are my favorites from the 35 shots I post-processed (out of 227 taken during a five-hour hike 😅). Enjoy!

Visited Maybury State Park today and photographed a number of spring ephemerals. My favorites are trillium and trout lilies, and both are in abundance at that beautiful location!

It has been a long, hard, lonely winter. Getting back out into the woods, rolling around in the mud to get the perfect angle on my favorite signs of spring, it feels like I'm coming alive again. Prints of my Spring 2024 fine art series coming soon.

What have I been working on lately? Well, I've spent a lot of time in the woods this spring and summer. Been doing some nature studies and really diving into depth and texture. It's coming in handy in the portraits I've been doing -- more on that later. For now, enjoy these wildflower photos! 🌺🌻🌼

Turned a corner of my basement into my photo studio. Had the first shoot in it tonight! Can't wait for more. This space is so customizable for so many looks!
