SPECIAL FOSTER NEEDED: Lacee's owner passed away. 12 yrs old Doberman, 70 lbs. San Diego, CA
--------------
UPDATE 6/16- not a single show of interest, thank you all for sharing. The vet will only be able to keep her so long and have already let us know that if they need to consider making a tough decision because she has nowhere to go then they will need to consider that for her own well being.
--------------
Lacee is currently staying at one of the vets we work closely with. 2 of our volunteers performed an evaluation of Lacee while she was staying with a temporary foster, here is what they learned:

Backstory:

Lacee was owned by Oceanside resident Margie, who adopted her at age 3. Margie passed away unexpectedly about 3 months ago. Lacee was being boarded at Bressi Ranch Animal Hospital, who took her in because of their long relationship with Margie. Leslie heard about Lacee’s situation through a mutual family member. They have a 5 year old female doberman who has been very calm with all dogs, so decided to try things out with Lacee.

Lacee has been with the foster for 2 months now. They sound like knowledgeable dog owners, and for the most part have tried to assimilate Lacee carefully and safely into their home. Lacee is incredibly sweet and smart, and loves human attention, but has proven to be very protective of the one person she bonds strongly with. Lacee has bitten the foster’s dog (minor, but broken skin) on several separate occasions over two months. Each time has been when the dogs are calm and keeping their distance from each other, then the resident dog would pass too close by Lacee or head toward foster mom, and Lacee would go from “zero to 100 in an instant” and bite the other dog. Foster reports that Lacee doesn’t growl or warn, or lay her ears down, just snaps. Her signals might be more subtle - I definitely saw strong staring going on.

The resident dobie, named Dobby, in a back room in the house during most of our visit. Foster let Dobby out before we left, and she is clearly fearful of Lacee. Both dogs are very obedient and followed directions to go to different areas so that we could greet Dobby briefly. Lacee glued herself to foster’s leg, and watched the other dog across the room like a hawk. It is clear that Lacee is used to being an only dog.

Lacee was clearly a much loved and physically well cared for dog. Her owner left $1,000 for her care before she passed away, as well as many toys, beds, and outfits.

Margie’s family members in Orange County are not able to take Lacee because she is aggressive to other dogs, cats, and small animals, which they have. The Foster's are leaving on vacation, so Lacee will be returned to Bressi Ranch Hospital next Thursday, 5/30/24. Unfortunately, she will not be going back to the Foster's home because of her dog aggression.

We know there must be a Dobie lover out there with an open heart and an empty house who would like to give Lacee a chance.
