I'll be honest with you. This one is personal.

Years ago, a young rider named Brittany Trimble Russell taught me how to bridge my reins at a full gallop while I was in the irons on my off-the-track Thoroughbred, Brahma Fear — a grandson of Secretariat. She was also the first person to ride him after he came off the track.

Saturday, that same young rider sends a horse named Taj Mahal to the gate at the Preakness Stakes.

It feels like 10 minutes ago. And it feels like everything.
