During this 250th year of independence, we want to wish you all a happy 4th of July!
The volunteer fire service perfectly embodies our country’s spirit of independence, leaning on our values of hard work, community, and service over self.
Have fun today, but be safe as you celebrate America!

For training this past month, we focused on two important aspects of fireground operations - hose and ladder mechanics.
Our first night, firefighters worked in groups of three to maneuver a charged hoseline through an obstacle course, after which they had to flow water toward two targets. This drill was effective at getting our guys to think about how to move hose through a space as quickly, strategically, and efficiently as possible.
On our second night, we focused on ladder mechanics. Inside, firefighters practiced rescuing a dummy from a second story window, while honing skills like leg locks and safely guiding someone down a ladder. Outside, a few members practiced strategically raising the ladder on Tower 8 as if on scene. To practice their precision, their task was to land a cone tied to the bucket onto a cone on the roof of the fire station.
These drills are good practice for our members, and they help develop essential skills when seconds count on a fire scene.

This is a great reminder from our friends over in Ankeny. Closing your door creates a closed space, making it much more difficult for fire to pe*****te. In an emergency situation, this can make all the difference.
Remember, close before you doze!

Thank you to the Pella Corporation for their generous donation to our department! With their help, we were able to purchase new thermal imaging cameras. These cameras measure heat, helping us determine conditions inside a structure and search for fire more quickly.
The Pella Corporation employs five of our members, and we're fortunate that they're able to respond quickly when the tones drop. Pictured below: Chief Dan Hannasch (center) joins our Pella-employed members: Scott Quandt, Jeremy Heinrichs, Ryan Hanlin, Baron Brinkman, and Reed Karnes.
Thank you to everyone in our community for your continuous support!

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives defending our freedom. This past Monday, Seagrave, Engine 9, Rescue 7, and Truck 3 participated in Carroll’s annual Memorial Day parade. It was a beautiful day to show our solemn gratitude to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Memorial Day parade is also a chance to embrace one our core values: family and community. We exist to serve you, the community, and we’re able to continue doing so because of the support of our families.
Thank you to those who gave their lives fighting for our country. We remember you today and every day. 🇺🇸
