SCAM ALERT! We have become aware of multiple instances where scammers have targeted elderly women in the Carthage area claiming to be a grandchild (or to be law enforcement calling on behalf of a grandchild) who needs a substantial amount of money sent next day air service to avoid being jailed. If money is sent they will solicit additional payments for other reasons as long as the scam victim continues to cooperate. If you have an elderly family member who might be targeted, please help them understand that they need to ask enough check questions to prove or disprove their "grandchild's" identity and to tell someone (another family member or trusted friend) before they send ANY money. If you suspect that a call may be a scam, contact local law enforcement immediately!
