Homeowner tip: When you change a filter, go to your calendar and make a note on the date it should be replaced. That way, you won't forget--like this homeowner did. Also, if you list your home for sale, immediately install new filters. Prospective buyers WILL look to see if you are doing routine maintenance.

Q. I want to use a TV "dish", but the convenants say "No antennas".

This is common wording in older covenants. Thanks to a ruling by the Federal Communications Commission, there is an exemption for satellite dish antennas which are smaller than one meter (36 inches) in diameter. A Homeowner Association must allow this kind of antenna. The HOA can recommend mounting locations, but the Association's rules cannot cause a homeowner to suffer a degraded signal or extra expense in order to keep the dish "out of sight".
