We just received our first orphaned Mississippi Kite of the season. You may remember that we raised a kettle of nine last year (a record for us!), and we anticipate another large intake ahead.

Kites are primarily insectivores and one of few raptor species with the ability to catch and eat their prey on-the-wing. This kite alone will go through tens-of-thousands of bugs during its stay with us. 😮 Live bugs are not only a crucial food source for growing kites, but an important tool in teaching kites how and what to hunt in the wild.

Another round of ducklings released!

We are in the second wave of baby season and are continuing to admit babies every day, especially ducklings. These nine Mallards are our most recent to reach independent age. We love watching them realize the pond is theirs and then race into the water together in excitement.
