I have such a love/hate relationship with April Fools’ Day.
A) Should it be Fool’s or Fools’ (there are multiple fools involved, so I vote the second...)
2) I LOVE big brand jokes today - a tease, a lighthearted prank... no one is hurt by thinking that KFC will sell toothpaste or Tic-Tac will make a Dr Pepper flavor for 45 seconds. It’s the absurdity that I can lean into! (PLEASE send me any good ones you find!)
iii) I can’t stand personal pranks. If I believe, even for a few moments, that someone I know/love has been injured, that sets my nervous system into a tailspin that’s difficult to overcome! Even positive pranks, since the happiness is subsequently rescinded, set me off for hours.
So I never know how to feel about today. I will spend the next 12-18 hours second-guessing every single thing I read today. But I also don’t want to go on media lockdown because of how funny I usually think the big brand jokes are. Sigh...
(gratitude moment: this is my biggest concern today, sheeeeeesh, what a charmed life)
ps, in my “research” for this post, scrolling through last year’s brand jokes - a lot of them seem like they could be in market...
photo description: Dr Pepper Tic-Tacs from their instagram last year. ALSO, I’m realizing that these brands would have probably engaged in Worst First Brainstorming to come up with these ideas! And if you’ve worked with me, you know that we often find good ideas in the unhinged ones....
so give that a shot for yourself today, not necessarily in the name of AFDay but in the name of creativity!
