🌞 Extreme Heat Alert for Our Pet Families! 🌞

With temperatures soaring this week in the Cedar Valley area, it's important to help keep your pets safe from dangerous heat.

Here are a few simple ways to protect them:

🐶 Walk during the coolest parts of the day and limit outdoor play — early morning or later in the evening. Avoid midday walks when temperatures and humidity are at their highest.

🐕 Be extra cautious with short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Shih Tzus, and Persian cats. These pets have a harder time cooling themselves and are at much higher risk for heatstroke.

💧 Always provide fresh, cool water and access to shade or air conditioning.

🐾 Check the pavement before heading out. If it's too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside can become life-threatening within minutes.

As you enjoy cookouts, fireworks, and time with loved ones, remember that the holiday can be stressful—and even dangerous—for pets.

🐶 Help keep your pets safe by:
• Keeping them indoors during fireworks
• Creating a quiet, comfortable space where they can relax
• Closing curtains or blinds to reduce flashing lights
• Playing the TV, music, or a white noise machine to help mask loud noises
