Three years have gone by so quickly. For many of us, it feels like the blink of an eye. For Slez, the journey may have felt a little longer as he faced adversity not once, but twice. Yet through it all, he never let those challenges define him or change the person he is. No matter what he was going through, he wasn’t going to be away from his team. That speaks volumes about the kind of leader, teammate, and person he is.

Guerin embodied what it means to be a Cedar Rapids RoughRider. His leadership and loyalty weren’t just evident on the ice, where he stood up for every one of his teammates, but even more so off the ice. His love for this team, this organization, his billet family, our fans, and the Cedar Rapids community was second to none. He didn’t just wear the “C.” He lived what it stood for every single day.

Guerin is a true RoughRider through and through, and so are his parents, Jamie and Steve. Ridertown has been fortunate to have the Slezak family as part of our organization, and they will all be missed. Guerin’s loyalty, passion, resilience, work ethic, and genuine care for everyone around him will continue to open doors throughout his life. RPI isn’t just getting a talented hockey player. They’re getting an exceptional leader, teammate, and person.

Captain, thank you for everything you’ve given to Ridertown. Thank you for representing this organization with class, character, and pride every single day. We will be following your success every step of the way, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for you.
