When pain is coming from the brain rather than the structural body- there are certain ways it behaves to let us know.
This list is just 6 of the many ways to rule in mindbody pain based off Dr. Howard Schubiner’s FIT (Functional, Inconsistent, Triggered) Criteria.

MindBody Pain has many other names - Neuroplastic Pain, Tension Myoneural Syndrome (TMS,) Primary Pain, Psychophysiologic Disorder (PPD.)
This type of pain is so incredibly common! This is good news because there is so much we can do to heal. 🧠 🤍

Our mind and body are not separate from each other. They are a single unit and sometimes we feel pain in the body from a difficult thought or emotion.

The “Five F’s,” coined by my mentor, Dr. Howard Schubiner.
These Five F’s are NORMAL, automatic responses that show up when we experience pain, symptoms or sensations on our bodies.
⚡️We fear and get worried about the pain.
⚡️We focus on the pain and sometimes can’t think about anything else.
⚡️We get frustrated with the pain, maybe it’s keeping us from doing things we love.
⚡️We fight the pain, we try to “power through.”
⚡️We try everything we can to fix it, we just want it to go away.
All of these normal mechanisms are actually what make pain chronic.
As I’ve shared with you, pain is part of an alarm signal, it’s a response to perceived danger, it’s there to get our attention. The Five F’s are ALSO a way our systems are trying to alarm us of danger. So the more we fear, focus on, get frustrated with, fight, and try to fix the pain, the louder the alarm will go off, the longer our pain will continue. It’s also why sometimes our pain gets worse, spreads to different areas and new symptoms pop up over time.
The first step in feeling better is shifting these Five F’s with brain/nervous system training. I’d love to teach you how.
