VFW Celebrates 250 Years of Freedom and Democracy

This historic Independence Day, we salute those who have answered the timeless call to protect
July 03, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This Independence Day, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) calls upon all Americans to pause and reflect on the profound origins and ongoing significance of our nation as we celebrate a historic 250 years of freedom and democracy.

Two and a half centuries ago, courageous acts of defiance and revolution birthed a nation founded on the radical ideals of liberty and freedom. This annual observance is more than just a milestone: It is a powerful reminder of the inherent rights of our citizens and the enduring principles that continue to define our American spirit and way of life.

VFW Celebrates 250 YearsThe signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was a courageous stand against oppression and tyranny, engraving the belief of our unalienable right to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” into the very fabric of which our nation was built.

VFW members have personally upheld these very ideas on battlefields around the globe, and this Independence Day, the VFW urges Americans to celebrate by engaging actively in our democracy and supporting the brave men and women who continue to stand in harm's way to protect our way of life, thus ensuring that the sacrifices of the past continue to guarantee the liberties and freedoms of the future.

Happy 250th birthday, America.

Many thanks to our guests who came out to the monthly Veterans breakfast at Archer's Tavern in Kettering yesterday. We had a lively group who asked shine great questions, brought up some great information and asked for some help to find some answers. Couldn't have been a better start to the day and weekend.

Thank you to the Honorsble Steven Abshire who is the Montgomery County Judge and talked about the Vetetans Treatment Court program. Provided great information on the specific criteria on what is eligible to go through the Veterans Treatment Court and the work involved by the individual to assist them to a better outcome and future. It was also mentioned that each individual has a mentor (battle buddy) to help them, guide them and assist them with any speed bumps that come their way. Lots of great information.

Thank you to Patrick Stiffler Treasurer/Director of Operations - Brotherhood of Belleau Wood.

The Brotherhood of Belleau Wood provides peer support, mental wellness, and community among United States military veterans through competitive long-range shooting events, lodge retreats, hunting excursions and peer accountability programs that reconnect veterans and prior service members across all branches — providing all-expenses-paid participation to veterans regardless of financial means or disabilities.

Here are some of the trips they have planned but no dates have been set yet.

Squirrel hunting over dogs (22Lr.) we will run two groups of 3 vets each night for 2 nights. (we will do this a few times in the fall)

Raccoon Hunt over hounds at night (22Lr.) we will run two groups of 3 vets each night for 2 nights. (we will do this a few times in the fall)

Turkey hunt, we have 6 stations set up (so we can have 6 vets on a 3 day hunt) this will be held a few times during the season.

Deer hunts rifle (we have 6 sites so we will run 6 vets for a 3 day hunt 3 different times)
Deer hunt bow (I don’t know anything about bow hunting but the season is longer so we can run weekend hunts the entire fall and winter)
Coyote hunts (at night with NVGs and Thermals) over gut piles (year-round) no start date
Long range shooting training (Jeff Fox the USMC scout sniper and our competitive shooter will give classes)

Will help set up your optics and rifle for best performances. They can teach how to reload for precision shooting Targets out to 1000 yards.

My team will provide everything, all equipment, food, drinks and gear for each trip. We will cover all permits as well. We can even process anything that is bagged so they can take it home with them.

Thanks again to all who attended, especially our newcomers!
