On this National day of motivation and inspiration I am feeling deeply moved by the words of the recently departed Carmen de Lavallade (1931 - 2025), “You can take a lifetime to discover what you want to say in your art.”
On the hard days when you are questioning your artistic pursuits or simply yourself remember that and keep going! Practice makes improvement, keep practicing until you discover what that truth has been all along.

Emory University’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library acquired the papers of dancers, activists and artists Carmen de Lavallade and her husband the incomparable Geoffrey Holder (1930 - 2014) in 2018.
