Our Story

Beyond Coal leads the Fossil Free UIUC campaign that fights for U of I to remove the hundreds of millions of dollars we have invested in fossil fuel companies. This movement began on college campuses and has grown exponentially to over 1,000 institutions committing more than $6 TRILLION to fossil fuel divestment worldwide.


  • A student referendum showed 85% of our STUDENT BODY supports coal divestment.

  • The FACULTY SENATE has passed a resolution urging coal divestment.

  • Chancellor Jones has been FORMALLY ADVISED TO DIVEST from coal.
