With summer temperatures beginning to rise, facility operators must take a proactive approach to maintaining the quality and performance of their building’s HVAC cooling systems. Most large HVAC systems rely on mechanical cooling, typically in the form of either a chilled water system or a closed-loop direct expansion (DX) system. Each system has its own unique maintenance requirements that must be addressed to ensure optimal operation, efficiency and overall system quality throughout the cooling season. This article provides a brief overview of the key considerations for preparing both chilled water and DX systems for reliable warm-weather performance.
