What causes a car to pull to one side?
A car may pull to one side due to issues with the wheel alignment, uneven tire pressure or wear, brake problems (like a stuck caliper), or worn suspension and steering components. Other factors can include a road's "crown" (slope) or, in modern vehicles, an active driver-assistance system.

Wheel alignment: The most frequent cause. Hitting potholes or curbs can knock the wheels out of their proper factory angles, causing the car to drift.

Tire pressure/wear: Uneven tire pressure creates an imbalance that affects handling. Uneven tire wear, also caused by alignment issues, can create an imbalance in how the tires contact the road.

Brake system problems: A dragging or stuck brake caliper on one side will cause constant friction, pulling the car in that direction. This can happen even while driving, not just when braking.

Suspension and steering issues: Worn or damaged parts like ball joints, tie rods, or control arms can cause the car to pull.

Road crown: Many roads are built with a slight slope from the center to the sides to help with drainage. This can make it feel like your car is pulling when it's actually driving on a crowned road.

Torque steer: This is a pulling sensation that can occur in front-wheel drive cars, especially during acceleration, due to variations in torque distribution between the wheels.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): Some systems that include lane-keeping assist may actively correct your steering, which can feel like the car is pulling if the system is being triggered.

Other potential causes
Faulty wheel bearing: A bad wheel bearing can cause excess friction on one side.

Collapsed brake hose: A collapsed brake hose can create a one-way pressure valve, causing the brake to drag.

Tire conicity: This is a condition where a tire is built improperly, causing it to want to roll in a curve.

Your car talks and by listening to it, you can save yourself quite a bit in the long run.

What's that Noise?

Common car noises like squealing when braking often signal worn brake pads, while engine knocking can indicate serious internal problems. A hissing sound may point to a coolant or vacuum leak, and rattling or clunking could mean loose exhaust parts or suspension issues.

A clicking noise when turning is often a sign of a bad CV joint, and a rapid clicking at startup might indicate a dead car battery.

Rumbling or roaring coming from the exhaust suggests a problem with the muffler, catalytic converter, or exhaust pipe itself.

What to do

Any unusual car noise should be investigated. If you hear any of these sounds, it's best to have a qualified mechanic inspect the vehicle to prevent potentially dangerous or costly problems from developing further.
