On a chilly morning in early December 1933, orphans from the Girls’ Annex of The New York City Municipal Orphanage are awoken by one of the orphans crying out for her mother. Annie, who had been up cleaning, runs in to comfort Molly. We learn that Annie was abandoned by her parents who left a note that they would some day return for her. After a failed attempt to run away to find her parents, Grace Farrell, secretary to Oliver Warbucks, arrives at the orphanage looking for an orphan to spend Christmas at the Warbucks mansion. Over time, a bond forms between Annie and Mr. Warbucks. Meanwhile, Ms. Hannigan, who runs the orphanage and is outraged by Annie’s luck, schemes with her brother, Rooster and Rooser’s girlfriend Lily. They plan to pose as Annie’s parents in order to collect the reward that Mr. Warbucks is offering to find Annie’s parents. On Christmas morning, the story comes to a conclusion as everyone, including President Roosevelt, arrives at the Warbucks mansion.
