We often like to think to jump at interim "Open" positions within our organization.
However there can be some real obstacles and this can also not be a good company/department decision.

One reason - Interim insiders tend to avoid bold decisions—they keep the seat warm instead of steering forward.
Another reason, staff often see them as a placeholder, not the leader.
In addition, duel-hat or handling multiple positions while attaining the new responsibilities. Many times there is a lack of effectiveness as a result of burn out.
It may create political barriers should the final hire be an outsider, as the interim employee returns to their previous position creating emotional trust issues.

Be very careful on your actions as these decisions could ultimately impact your career.

Leadership is more than building an organization. It is a mindset to change the way we do things.
