Did you know “causa” means “the cause” in English. Causa, one of the most popular dishes in Peru, originated during the War of the Pacific.
Peruvian women wanted to support their soldiers. Potatoes were a food they could rely on and easily access during the war.
The women made this potato dish to feed the soldiers and show they supported the cause, which is how it earned the name causa.
