Congratulations to our friends and NEW neighbors, the International African American Museum on their opening day! Today, June 27, this long awaited Museum opens to the public to share the important work and stories with the world.
The Mission of the new Museum is to honor the untold stories of the African American Journey at one of our country's most sacred sites. At the Museum's entrance, the African Ancestors Memorial Garden sprawls across the grounds and reflects on the significance of Gadsdenโs Wharfโthe point at which an estimated 45 percent of enslaved Africans entered this country. Inside, exhibitions tell the unvarnished story of the international African American experience. Historic Charleston Foundation stands alongside our city in welcoming the IAAM and congratulating them on a wonderful opening day!
