Restoration In-Progress

Join On-line and In-Person

Stone & Lime Historic Restoration Services has overseen multiple National Park Service projects, and one of its latest engagements is the restoration of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. To date, the team has been tasked with making repairs to deteriorated masonry, metal components, windows, marble flooring, and the lantern. Important architectural components are also being restored, along with significant details like the historic oil house, walkway, and landscaping. As with any project of this undertaking, challenges have emerged, and this presentation will address both the overall scope along with additional opportunities for long-term preservation posed by the discovery of deteriorated cast iron components as well as compromised bracketry that are integral to the Lighthouse’s structure.
