ANY Party, Event or Festival! Face Painting - kids & adults/Glitter tattoos/Balloons/Henna

Scarcity trauma is complex trauma, that can pass from generation to generation. We carry shame for what we don’t have, how we dress, what our home looks like, how our parents behave. Tiny homes, broken down cars, we connect our sense of self to this environment. Growing up in a small space, no privacy, seeing your parents upset, stressed, afraid, feeling like a burden, and exposed to adult conversations.

You don’t even have to be the one that struggled to fall victim to a lack mindset. Perhaps your parents/ grandparents endured war, migration, famine, or your family grew up in social housing, on a council estate and they swore their children (you) would
never know struggle.

Yet their little habits still reflected their fear of not having anything or it being snatched from them. Perhaps you didn’t get to enjoy anything without the FEAR of it being taken from you. And it can really show up around the holidays as we increase our spending. Here’s what we see in practice ;

• Refusing to pay over the odds for things that are considered ‘luxury’ items, like clothes, make up, but overindulging in things such as food or household items, since everyone benefits from them.

• Feeling anxious if the fridge/pantry is empty, and feeling a sense of accomplishment when it is full.

• Keeping labels on clothes incase you need to take them back to the store.

• Minimising your birthday, because you are afraid that you might not recieve gifts or may inconvenience others.

• Seeming ungrateful because you don’t know how to react physically to receiving presents or gifts.
• Keeping leftover food for days so that nothing is wasted.

• Having no hobbies that you connect with, as these were not engrained in you. So you socialise through drinking, partying.

• Saving your luxury items for special occasions and never using them, allowing them to gather dust.

• Checking your bank account, refreshing the app. Keeping funds separate from your bills so that the bank can’t ‘take’ your money.

• Finishing everything on your plate, even when you are full.
What else did I miss? ❤️
