This was posted by the Piedmont Aviation Historical Society on FB:

40 years ago, Piedmont opened their new $16.5 million Maintenance Hangar at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC. The Hanger was officially opened for business on May 8, 1983.

When the logo was raised by SignArt, the Piedmont Speedbird was 31 feet tall and the letters reached 17 feet. In 1983, it was the largest logo in the Piedmont system and welcomed travelers to GSO. The logo and letters had to be built in sections at our facility on North Graham Street because the celing height and dock doors were not tall enough to accomodate the height of the logo and letters. Zeke Foard was the owner of SignArt, Alan Capps was the salesman on the project, Trishia Alexander was the sign designer, the shop foreman was Punch Belvin and the fabricators of the sign were Eddy Cline and Steve Blackwelder, the paint was applied by Geno Petrie, some of the installers were Loyd Davis (know as "Pie"), Tommy Hanvey, Hugh Foyt and Mike (? last name). I am sure there were others involved in the fabrication and installation but 40 years has erased some memories.

The building still sits beside the main runway at the airport.
