As Halle and her husband, Ken, were settling into a new home and planning for the future, they never imagined how quickly life could change. Today, Halle is sharing her story in hopes it encourages other women to listen to their bodies.

When Halle learned she was pregnant, she was experiencing symptoms she couldn't quite explain. Over several days, she continued searching for answers and trusting herself.

An appointment soon revealed the cause: an ectopic pregnancy, a serious condition in which a pregnancy develops outside the uterus. But before Halle had time to fully process the news, the situation became life-threatening.

Her fallopian tube ruptured, and within minutes, she went from asking questions in a doctor's office to being rushed into emergency care. By the time she arrived at Atrium Health Union West, she had lost nearly half of her blood and needed immediate life-saving surgery.

For Halle and her family, those moments were terrifying. But amid the fear, they found themselves surrounded by a team that was ready.

Physicians, nurses and surgical staff moved quickly and worked seamlessly together to identify the source of the bleeding, stabilize Halle and get her into emergency surgery. In one of the most critical moments of her life, she was met with both expertise and genuine compassion — care that helped save her life and support her family through an unimaginable experience.

In the weeks that followed, Halle found herself reflecting not only on how quickly life can change, but on the people who helped her through it. The experience reinforced the importance of listening to her body and left her deeply grateful for a care team whose expertise and compassion made all the difference.

Today, Halle is moving forward with gratitude, resilience and hope for the future. By sharing her story, she hopes other women will feel empowered to listen to their instincts and know they are never alone in seeking care.

One special arrival, marking something bigger 🩷

In June, Rodnessia welcomed her baby girl, Jaleena, into the world — a moment filled with love and the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for their family.

Jaleena’s arrival also marked Atrium Health Lake Norman’s 1,000th baby delivered, a milestone reached even before the hospital celebrates its first year of caring for families in the Lake Norman community.

“My experience during labor and delivery was amazing,” Rodnessia shared. “The nurses were incredibly kind, attentive and supportive throughout the entire process. Because of their care and compassion, my delivery experience was positive and very exciting.”
