Mothering Across Continents

Inspiring when US schools act on behalf of education for all. Hundreds of students at Myers Park HS in Charlotte, NC, just completed a Walk for Wisdom in an effort that’s already raised $1,500 for laptops and tablets at Nyarweng Primary School in South Sudan, founded by former Lost Boy of Sudan James Lubo Mijak. It was fun (!), and the student fundraising page is open – with a goal of $10,000: tinyurl.com/W4W-MPHS-26.

Then, now . . . Myers Park HS students in Charlotte, NC, are using tech to support the 10th Anniversary of the Walk for Wisdom! Here’s their Apple Pay fundraiser link (ow.ly/qKn550ZTv9F) to raise $10,000 to equip South Sudan’s Nyarweng Primary School with 6 laptops, 15 tablets, a digital STEM curriculum, and teacher training. How is the student team inspiring you? They’re recruiting 700 teachers and students to join on Oct. 13th for a 45-minute lesson about the need for education in the world’s newest and most fragile country and walk the school track for 45 minutes, too. It’s the average time it takes students to walk from home to the Nyarweng School each day.

The concepts of “Mother Earth” and “World Mother” were common in many ancient civilizations that recognized a connection between life-giving soil and motherhood. We help keep the spirit alive with support for the NewGen Peacebuilders 10,000 Trees for Peace project in Juba, South Sudan. About to reach the first goal of planting 1,000 seedlings and saplings across primary and secondary schools. Next year, starting January 2027, calls for another 9,000. Info: [email protected]
