The utilization of our coping skills helps raise resilience against life stressors. Creative expression is a coping skill that has been used for thousands of years and across all cultures.

April is National Poetry Month!

Did you know that Poetry
serves as a powerful coping mechanism by providing a structured, creative outlet for processing difficult emotions like trauma, grief, anxiety, and loneliness. Writing poetry externalizes inner pain, helping individuals reclaim their voice, while reading it fosters connection and provides comfort, reducing feelings of isolation through shared experience.

Some Key Benefits of Poetry include:
Mental Well-being:
Studies indicate poetry aids with depression and anxiety, with 50% of participants in a study reporting it helped manage these conditions.
Self-Awareness:
It encourages introspection, allowing people to uncover hidden thoughts and shift their perspectives on life struggles.
Accessible Healing:
Poetry is particularly helpful for introverts or those who find verbal emotional expression difficult.

Therefore,
*Writing poetry helps you release and process difficult or complex emotions
*Writing (and sharing) poetry can help you build self-confidence and self-worth
*Taking part in poetry workshops can help you find connection with others
*Reading poetry can ground you and remind you of the positive things in life
