You shut up, Joe Rogan. You condoned racism.
Joe Rogan Fires Back At Haters Of UFC White House Event Joe Rogan is firing back at the critics of the UFC's White House event. Over the weekend, the UFC held an event on the south lawn of the White House.
Long and angry post ahead, so bear with me. One of my friends here in MI—let’s call her Carson—was accused of violating a protective order slapped on her by a guy she briefly dated. But in the course of filing the complaint, the guy and a local pastor blasted out her trauma history into court records when they had no defensible reason to do so. It now has Carson in fear for her safety after her abuser berated her at a gas station.
Gentlemen—a term I use in its loosest possible sense—I say HOW FU***NG DARE YOU! Releasing that information isn’t just wrong. It’s dangerous. And even if it isn’t illegal, the bar for acceptable behavior is much higher than the bar below which you go to jail. You are showing a complete lack of humanity. And if any, any, ANY harm befalls Carson, there are going to be a lot of people falling all over themselves to make damn sure you are sued into poverty, lose your jobs, the lot. Including me. Even if you believe Carson did something wrong, what you did was many times worse. If you even thought this was okay, you are missing the part that makes you human.
Reading about the ten-year anniversary of how SB Nation allowed an overly sympathetic piece about a convicted r*pist made me think back to an equally egregious journalistic lapse—Julie Roys announcing Jen Hatmaker’s divorce before Hatmaker could do so. Julie only apologized five years later when Hatmaker publicly called Julie out in the Old Grey Lady, and also revealed in her book that she was still so shattered by her husband’s cheating that she hadn’t even told her family about it. She said that she intends to do better. But when there’s a failure of this magnitude, we can’t just take her word for it. SB Nation commissioned a lengthy peer review, with recommendations on how to prevent another lapse. Julie hasn’t done so. Maybe it’s just me, but you’d think it would be especially incumbent on a Christian reporter to demonstrate how she will work to keep such a lapse from happening again. It’s all the more reason why I can’t in good conscience platform her again. How do we know she won’t do this to someone else? She could potentially make it harder to hold these wolves to account, especially those who enabled Trump.
