Don’t matter where I’m playing, who I’m playing with, or who I’m playing for… they gon get the D’Angelo outta me. Every time. Every note I hit, every chord, every run, all that… they think it’s just a Roberta Flack record. Nah. It’s a D’Angelo record TO ME! lol. That’s how I feel every time I do that or any other song… heavy influences from D but also making it mine and putting my style in it. 🎙️🎹

I don’t know where to start man. Been devastated all day. THE REASON I DO MUSIC IS BECAUSE OF D’ANGELO! My heart goes out to his family, close friends, and vast musical family. His impact and legacy will live forever.

This pic was from 2015 in Atlanta. M brother and I were in amazement all night. The best concert I’ve been to in my life. Was my screensaver for a while. The iconic soulquarians pic was my screensaver on my laptop for years. D’s impact on my career man… I can barely put in words. Studied every nook and cranny of every song, every note, every run, every chord for YEARS.

One of the first songs(if not the 1st) that my cousin Curtis (bass) and I learned to play together was “Send it On” in 2000. It’s still on VHS somewhere…

One of the biggest compliments of my life was when , D’s guitarist and one of the illest in the world, sent me a voice message last year saying that he admired my work… someone who’s toured with my favorite artist… man I just wanna say that meant the world to me. If I can have a FRACTION of the impact on folks as D did, I did my job.

Never got the chance to meet you or sing with you, but I’ll do my part and keep putting my God-given talent out there, and being myself unapologetically as you were, D.

I can go on and on.. but I don’t even know what else to say. I’ll be posting some of my own D’Angelo videos that I’ve done throughout the years to continue uplifting his legacy. RIP D..✊🏽✊🏽🕊️
