No shop or mechanic will ever be 100% correct on any diagnosis, that’s a given because humans will never be perfect. With that being said it does not excuse people from doing their best in anything that they do. I’ve made a few wrong diagnosis in the past and I do my best to make sure I don’t repeat my mistakes. A new client reached out to me for a quote on a heater core replacement. I gave her a number but I asked who told her she needed it done. She told me two places , 2 ! Places told her she needed it done to fix her no heat problem. So I asked her a series of questions and from her answers I said she didn’t need it and I wanted to see for myself if it’s leaking. Sure enough after verifying that the heater core wasn’t leaking and her blend doors were working I found the true issue in 5 mins. No coolant and a radiator that has been leaking for quite some time ! She was quoted at $1400 to do the heater core which she didn’t need. I did her radiator and thermostat for a mere $240 installed. She has heat now.
I’ll say it again, no one is perfect but this is why my industry has a bad reputation for cheating vulnerable women. The picture itself is proof that either the mechanic that told her she needed the heater core was lying or severely incompetent.
