Some of my assistants during my time at ASU that joined me this past Saturday:
Jenni Mix with her 2 sons Max and Luke. Jenni was the very first female strength coach at ASU. Went on to coach at the IMG academy in Florida.
Kevin Kaga: Kevin was one of my very first assistants. He has spent 37 years teaching and coaching in the public schools.
Ben Cook and his girl friend Lynn. Ben went to be the Head Strength coach for basketball at UNC under Dean Smith. Later worked in NASCAR training pit crews.
Anthony Glass: went on to be be the head strength coach at U of Georgia and Ohio State U working with all Olympic sports, then made his way back to ASU working in the same capacity. Now Anthony is back in Ohio with his family as strength coach at a local HS.
Next, the two men responsible for this, number 23 C Philip Byers and Lee Barnes. Philip is on the UNC Board of Governors and a successful businessman but more importantly a dear friend! Lee Barnes is on the board of Trustees at ASU and a very successful businessman. He was my assistant 87-89 and that’s his name along side of on the wall as well it should be!
Next: my dear friend Rick Parker along side his wife Ronda. Rick (my Saturday morning workout partner for over 30 years) is a legend in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system is head Principal at East Mecklenburg HS in Charlotte.
The two big guys is (on my right) Alex Johnson. Alex, a dear friend is cohost of the Black & Gold Podcast. No one loves ASU athletics like Alex.
Next: head strength coach for football Matt Greenhalgh. A superstar in the making when it comes to strength and conditioning!
Last but not least (not pictured) is David Mieburg. David was my go to guy when it came to exercise science. David is retired now but was a very successful businessman and was Regional Director of Development at ASU.
Two men who were not able to make it, Roger Morrison due to Covid
And my very first Assistant Dan Duncan. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan as he battles cancer. If anyone can beat it Dan certainly will!!
I am so very proud of each as they went on to be so successful in this thing call Life!!

Saturday September the 16th is a day I will always remember. I was very humbled and honored to have a plaque put up in the new field house in the weight room at ASU. What made it special was that many of my assistants from 1984 to 1990 were there for the ceremony. My thanks to Lee Barnes, C Philip Byers, Sarah Strickland and Doug Gillian the Athletic Director at ASU for making this day possible. More pictures to come I’m sure! Again, one special day!

When Dementia and Alzheimer’s is common place as we age, I believe in being proactive in the fight against such a heart breaking situation for a person and their family to go through.
That’s why I have listed below some foods and supplements that help with the fight against such a dreaded disease. I know there are no grantee’s, however I do believe in being proactive to help stop or delay the onset of either one.
I just lost a good friend several months ago and visited a good friend (the same age as me) this past Sunday with Dementia/ Alzheimer’s. Very sad.
Do the research yourself, don’t take my word for it. My reference was the Huberman Podcast #42 “Nutrition for Brain Health and Performance. Huberman is a Professor at Sanford University.
