Aaliyah Fortner’s brother shared those words after the 23-year-old’s former caregiver appeared for the first time on a murder charge.
As we’ve found, police and DSS were warned about Marlo Wallace long before Fortner, who had severe disabilities, was placed in her Dallas, NC home.
In fact, our investigation found the courts even revoked Wallace’s longtime guardinaship over another dependent adult amid safety concerns.
An autopsy found Fortner was just 84 pounds at the time of her death and concluded she died in October from complications of "calorie malnutrition due to inadequate nutritional intake due to caregiver neglect.”
Caleb Simpson, Fortner’s brother, said the state failed Aaliyah.
