Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Pahira, who gave his life in the line of duty while serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Trooper Pahira dedicated 20 years to the Pennsylvania State Police, serving with unwavering courage, professionalism, and integrity. He was tragically struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while conducting a commercial vehicle inspection along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County—a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers first responders and law enforcement officers face every day.

His commitment to serving others extended far beyond his patrol duties. In 2016, Trooper Pahira selflessly entered a smoke-filled home, risking his own life to rescue a man from near-certain death. That act of extraordinary bravery reflected the character he carried throughout his entire career—a servant leader who always put others before himself.

As we mourn the loss of Trooper Pahira, let us also remember the importance of protecting those who protect us. Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles and personnel working along our roadways. One simple action can save a life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Pahira’s family, friends, and his brothers and sisters of the Pennsylvania State Police during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Trooper Michael Pahira. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of courage, sacrifice, and service will live on forever. We have the watch from here.
