Chester, SC Rotary Club

On April 21, 2026, the Chester Rotary Club welcomed Robbie Yarborough, Director of School Counseling, and Kelee Christian, Career Development Facilitator at Great Falls High School, who shared the inspiring story behind the Sunshine Closet.

Recognizing that some students face economic hardships that limit access to basic necessities, Mr. Yarborough and Ms. Christian developed an innovative and compassionate solution to support students in a private and dignified way. The Sunshine Closet, located within Great Falls High School and designed to resemble a small store, provides students with access to new clothing, toiletries, backpacks, and other school-related supplies.

Students can discreetly access the Sunshine Closet by contacting Mr. Yarborough or Ms. Christian, with selected items placed privately in the student’s backpack at the end of the school day. This thoughtful initiative not only meets practical needs but also serves as a tremendous morale booster for students and families.

The Sunshine Closet is made possible through the support of the ARRAS Foundation, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Wateree Baptist Church, the Lonon Foundation, and generous private citizens.

Adding to the day’s generosity, John Davis drew the ace and donated the $259 winnings to the Sunshine Closet in support of this meaningful program.
