The R sound in English does not roll. Many Americans have trouble understanding us if we roll our R, so we need to practice. It will feel weird at first, but like everything else, it just takes practice. This video gives a lot of ways to practice; do all the practices exercises:

The 13th Amendment in simple English:
"The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, ratified in 1865, officially abolished slavery and involuntary servitude in the United States, with the exception of punishment for a crime*. It prohibits holding people in slavery or forcing them to work against their will."

*Punishment for Crime: It refers to a person who has been lawfully convicted of a CRIME in accordance with Constitutional Law and the due process of law. The exception allows for imprisonment as a form of punishment, but not as a form of slavery or involuntary servitude. However, this does NOT refer to Civil Cases, such as unpaid debt.

(Our forefathers NEVER intended that there would be such a thing as "Debtor's Prison" or "Work Houses" as was common in England. Therefore, debt is not a crime; it is a civil matter.)

Reminder: We have English tutoring with Lois on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am before class. They are going over the US Citizenship test line by line, which is a great opportunity to learn civics and expand vocabulary! All levels of students are welcome.
