Cheyenne Police Warn of Increase in Vehicle Burglaries
The Cheyenne Police Department is warning residents about an increase in vehicle burglaries reported in the city during the month of May.
Officers investigated 22 vehicle burglary reports last month, compared to nine in April. In 2025, the city saw 14 cases in May. Most of these crimes involved vehicles that were left unlocked. In one case, a firearm was stolen from inside.
Of the reported cases in May 2026:
• 18 (82%) involved unlocked vehicles.
• 3 (14%) the victim in the report denied leaving the car unlocked; however, there were no signs of forced entry.
• 1 (5%) involved a locked trailer.
Officers have identified persons of interest and are actively pursuing leads in each of these cases. A map of reported incidents is included below. Anyone with information or surveillance video of these crimes is encouraged to contact the detective bureau at (307) 637-6513.
The CPD reminds the public of the following tips to help prevent vehicle theft:
• Secure valuables: Keep valuables out of sight to avoid attracting attention. Remove personal belongings such as fi****ms, electronics, and purses.
• Keep doors locked: Always lock your vehicle doors and close your windows, even when parked at home.
• Install Security Cameras: Video evidence can be valuable in these investigations. Install cameras in a location that captures parked vehicles, make sure that they store video recordings, and keep them updated.
