"Disability and poverty should never be a death sentence. As long as the medical establishment and society more generally do not appreciate the innate human dignity of disabled people, thousands will continue to die needlessly under the guise of mercy and compassion.”
–Sophie Trist, disability rights self-advocate

Chicago should be doing everything we can to make victims of torture and wrongful conviction whole, including certificates of innocence.

Burke's aggressive pursuit of injustice needs to stop. https://www.injusticewatch.org/project/denying-innocence/2026/cook-county-prosecutor-fights-to-block-certificates-of-innocence/

BREAKING: Rehumanize is part of a bi-partisan, pro-choice AND pro-life, coalition working to pass the Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act (S. 1834 / H.R. 3762). The bill eliminates patient cost-sharing for prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care. If it passes, giving birth in America becomes free at the point of care.

This is a bipartisan bill with Republican and Democratic cosponsors in both chambers:
-Senate (S. 1834): Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Kaine (D-VA), Hawley (R-MO), Gillibrand (D-NY)
-House (H.R. 3762): Golden (D-ME), Young Kim (R-CA), McClellan (D-VA), Valadao (R-CA)

ACOG considers it a top-priority bill and everyone from pro-life organizations to progressive maternal health groups back it. In a world where common ground is hard to find, this bill is something that we can all get behind.

Here is why it matters:
The average birth in the United States costs $18,865. Privately insured families still pay $3,000 or more out of pocket. 73% of women seeking abortion say finances played a role in their decision (Guttmacher). RAND research found 29% more live births when maternal care is free.

If you're pro-choice and following us, this bill should be on your list too. No woman should end up in an abortion clinic because she cannot afford to have her baby. No family should start parenthood $18,000 in the hole to a hospital. No one should feel like they can’t have a child they want to have because of prohibitive finances.

We’re proud to be part of the bi-partisan coalition working to pass this bill. If enacted, it would require most private health insurance plans to cover pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care with no cost-sharing — similar to how many preventive services are currently covered under federal law.

That means no co-pays, deductibles, or co-insurance for maternity care, so families wouldn’t face thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs for giving birth. Care would still be paid for through the existing insurance system, but without the financial barriers that too often burden parents.

In a world where common ground is hard to find, this bill is something that we can all get behind.
