Meet Kevin.
Kevin is the result of months of exertion in the machine shop and the Hack Arts Lab, and several consecutive all-nighters in a hotel room in Champaign. Thanks to the strength and dedication of our build and programming teams, Kevin made his debut this weekend at the competition at the University of Illinois. While we did not advance, he held his own against robots built by teams much more experienced than ours.
But Kevin means much more to us symbolically. After two years as a team, Robobrawl is our first competition, and Kevin is the first robot to represent the University of Chicago on the intercollegiate level. This achievement means the world to those of us who operate in the university’s oft-ignored engineering and computer science spaces. Kevin, and the growth of robotics in general, represent an opportunity to expand STEM engagement on our campus. We will build on this momentum by launching new programs in the fall and offering more opportunities for the campus community to engage with our work.
Thank you to our team members, pit crew, leadership team, and all of those who have supported us over the last few months. Let’s make sure that Kevin is the first of many robots to come!

Our first-ever Mini Soccer Competition was a blast! ⚽
For the last couple of months, UChicago Robotics team members have been creating mini robots to compete against each other in a soccer tournament. Making the robots operational has required hours of design, construction, programming, and drive testing.
And this Saturday, all of that work paid off in a big way. We held a best of 3 tournament between two teams, followed by an afterparty with plenty of free food. Congratulations to "The Stink" on their victory!

When the summer gives way to autumn... it’s time for another UChicago Robotics season! In the 2022-2023 season, the club hopes to build on the successes of last year by entering intercollegiate competitions for the first time. We welcome our returning members, and we look forward to engaging with the next generation of roboticists through our new member application process!
In the attached graphic, you’ll find some of our introductory events in the first two weeks of autumn quarter. These events are meant to coincide with our application period, which opens on September 26th and closes on October 7th. A brief description of each is listed below, and more information can be found at our website in the link in our bio!
