Meet our empower finalists: Founded by Maranda Walker Dowell and Joe Dowell, Joe's Gourmet is the world's most delicious fish fry AND one of our Empower Project finalists! Having grown from a single kitchen recipe to over $2 million in sales, Joe's Gourmet also helps to serve meals to Atlanta’s homeless population.

To honor and celebrate this year, we'd like to highlight notable Black artists based out of Chicago.

Zakkiyyah Najeebah Dumas O’Neal is a visual artist, educator, independent curator, and co-founder of CBIM (Concerned Black Image Makers), a collective driven project that prioritizes shared experiences of the Black diaspora. Her work reflects personal and social histories related to family legacy, queerness, community making, and intimacy.
