🏗️ Project Spotlight: Brookfield Zoo – Gorilla Conservation Center

The Gorilla Conservation Center at the Brookfield Zoo was a part of a larger effort to construct the Bramsen Tropical Forests; one of the largest outdoor primate habitats in any accredited Zoo in the U.S. With an evolving design and shifting requirements, it meant that profiles, sizes, finishes, and colors of the USG systems had to be fine-tuned to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional performance of the space; a challenge made significantly easier by working closely with the architect on design intent.

Early collaboration by USG allowed for quicker resolution of product specification as the project evolved. When it was determined that the specified finish of the original basis of design would not meet the cleanability requirements of the Center and its connected “gorilla chute,” the choice to pivot to USG Ceilings Plus® Planx™ Universal and its scrubbable and easier-to-clean PVDF painted Timbre™ finish exemplified USG’s commitment and capability to satisfy the animal-centric design unique to the chute feature of the space while also serving day-to-day operational maintenance needs.
