I love helping world language teachers with fresh ideas and resources that make language acquisition enjoyable in their classrooms!
Sound Effects Reading is one of my favorite ways to make storytime more interactive while keeping the focus on comprehension.
As I read, students listen carefully to the story and create sound effects based on what they understand. I don’t assign the sounds or tell them when to make them. Their responses come from the meaning they are making from the story.
A few tips if you’d like to try it:
📚 Start with a familiar story.
🤫 Use a quiet signal to reset attention.
🔊 Let students create their own sound effects.
✨ Focus on understanding, not accuracy.
🎭 Join in and have fun!
Sometimes the best evidence of comprehension isn’t a correct answer, it’s the perfect sound effect at the perfect moment.
Save this idea for your next story lesson!
Mis estudiantes aman este descanso mental que no requiere planeación y es súper divertido.
