Similarly to the Australian scene, Michael Charles has received notable media acknowledgment in North America as well. Beginning in the late 80’s and early 90’s Chicago Tribune highlighted and published an article about MC’s emergence onto the American music scene. At the same time Charles started a thirty-six year plus professional relationship and friendship with “Mr. Chicago”, Jerry Bryant of JBTV. In1990 Charles became the first guest on the first JBTV Blues Oasis show, later returning many times for performances, one show actually recorded for a live DVD. Jerry and Michael continue on with MC’s last visit to JBTV in the spring of 2026. WGN television is also a longtime supporter. Starting in 1996 while performing for his residency at the Chicago chapter of the Grammy Association, we were approached by WGN television, inviting Michael to appear on their programming as a musical guest. To this very day, Michael makes an annual appearance on WGN. Along with Chicago’s Windy City Live television show, Charles has guested on a multitude of other television stations and radio stations across the USA and Canada. In the printed press MC and his concerts appeared as features in numerous American and Canadian newspapers and publications, including the “College Music Journal”, Nashville’s “Rock and Read”, Chicago Sun Times, British Columbia’s Penticton Herald and Buddy Guy’s Legends Magazine.
