Happy First Day Of Spring! This is an excellent time to discuss the meaning behind the name "Wing Chun" since springtime plays a very important part. As we mentioned in our last post, one of the first practitioners of the style was named Yim Wing Chun, and the style was later named after her. Now the translations for Wing Chun vary, some are: "beautiful hope in the springtime", "song of the springtime", or "spring chant". Our favorite, and the one from which we derive our name, is "eternal springtime". Spring is a time of growth, new beginnings, and when light begins to win out over dark. It is a beautiful and symbolic time and we are so proud to name our school after a Spring that has no end.
