What difference does Good Friday make? While I certainly don't have all the answers, there are at least 6 scriptural truths found in the crucifixion of Jesus that have become a steady guide in my life of faith:

1. Forgiveness of Sins: Jesus' death on the cross is the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

2. Reconciliation with God: The crucifixion establishes a new relationship between humanity and God, one of reconciliation rather than estrangement. God's love and mercy are revealed through Jesus' sacrifice, making it possible for us to be in a relationship with him.

3. Eternal Life: The resurrection of Jesus, following his crucifixion, is a powerful symbol of victory over death and the promise of eternal life.

4. New Life in Christ: The crucifixion is not just about past sins being forgiven, it also signifies a new way of life, one lived in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Through faith in Jesus, we are transformed into new creatures in Christ, with new desires and motivations.

5. Model for Living: The cross provides a powerful model for living a life of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. Jesus' willingness to suffer for others demonstrates the depth of God's love and the call to serve others, even when it is difficult.

6. Confronting Our Sinfulness: The crucifixion also confronts us with the reality of our sinfulness and the consequences of our actions. It is a reminder that we are not perfect and that we need God's grace and forgiveness.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, you came down from heaven to earth from your Father’s side, suffered five wounds on the wood of the cross, and shed your precious blood for the forgiveness of our sins. At the day of judgment set us at your right hand, speak to us those sweet words, “Come, you who are blessed, into my Father’s kingdom;” with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and forever.

Daily Lenten Prayer
A Stephen Ministry adage goes: “The biggest compliment you can give anyone is simply to listen to them”. This text from Proverbs goes even deeper. It is implying reverent respect - a spiritual listening discipline of being fully present and seeking to hear beyond words. May it serve us well as we reach the final days of Lent and beyond.

“Turn my ear to your words God and keep them within my heart. Amen”
