There were 821 censorship attempts on library books in 2024 — the third-highest number of book challenges recorded by American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. 72 percent of those challenges were brought up by pressure groups and government entities that included elected officials, board members and administrators. These figures are the reason CPL is committed to support every Chicagoan’s , especially in this pivotal time. As the leader of the movement, CPL will continue to support intellectual freedom and protect the books you love.

Frosty the Snowman brought his magic to the Near North Library as he shared hugs, high-fives, and thumbs-up with all in attendance. The kids were especially happy as they followed Frosty "Conga Line style" around the Meeting Room. Add in treats, games, and crafts, for a fabulous afternoon at Winter Wonder Fest!
