StoryCenter SahiyoVoice’s project is mobilizing a critical mass of storytellers and activists from across the globe. We bring people together to share and heal from their experiences of female ge***al mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) and create short videos calling for an end to this harmful practice.

In this chilling story, Somaya recounts her experience of being cut as a girl in a “group mutilation event” held in her community in Egypt. As she names the ways in which women’s bodies, voices, and freedoms are denied by the state, Somaya then describes fleeing to Turkey, where her attempts to connect with other survivors of female ge***al cutting/mutilation (FGM/C) result only in women accusing her of being “anti-Muslim.”
