Today I turned cybersecurity into a game for my students — and it got real fast.
I gave them a list of “recon points”:
• Full name
• Email address
• Phone number
• Social media accounts
Then I introduced them to real-world OSINT tools and gave them one starting point — my business Instagram.
The challenge: first to 100 points wins $20.
At first it was fun… students laughing, guessing, connecting dots.
Then about 20 minutes in, my phone rang.
“Mr. Bass… I got your cell phone number.”
That moment changed everything.
They realized this isn’t just a classroom exercise — this is how easily information can be found in the real world.
Cybersecurity isn’t just about hackers in hoodies.
It’s about awareness, habits, and understanding your digital footprint.
And today, that lesson hit home.

They thought they were just getting on laptops… 👀
Nah, we’re building future cyber defenders.Shoutout to my guy Derrick for letting me come through and do what I do 🙌🏾
Today’s session? Different.
These students came in locked in 🔒
✔️ Configured their laptops
✔️ Built their own websites
✔️ Some already had 2FA enabled (yeah… I almost shed a tear 🥲)
Listen… when students are already thinking about security like that??
Yeah… this class about to go CRAZY.
We’re not just teaching tech…
We’re teaching discipline, ownership, and how to move smart in a digital world.
Because out here… getting hacked ain’t just a meme 😅
Proud of this group already. This is just the beginning.
This is how you end a year with purpose.
Our students wrapped up their program by presenting what they learned from conducting CISA scans, explaining vulnerabilities, and talking through remediation and they did it in front of a real industry leader.
We were honored to have CISO Marcus Johnston join us not just as a judge, but as a mentor. Sitting with the students, answering questions, and giving them a real look into what a day in the life of a CISO looks like.
Moments like this remind us why we do the work.
Thank you, Marcus, for showing up for our students.
We can’t wait to build on this momentum next year.

From the West Side of Chicago ➡️ to the Sears Tower 🏙️
This week, I had the honor of speaking to a room full of cybersecurity leaders at the CISO Leadership Exchange. Not only did they hear our story they felt it.
The mission of Intergenerational Computer Education is simple: connect generations through tech, opportunity, and access. We’re helping students find careers and seniors stay protected and yesterday, we got to share that with the city.
Thank you to for having me. 💙
When the WiFi dies, we rise. 😎💻
There’s a dead zone at the school entrance — but since I’m IT for the school… that means my students are too!
We grabbed our tools, tracked the weakest signal spots, and installed a new access point. Teamwork, problem-solving, and a serious WiFi glow-up 💪📶
