🌟 Flippin’ for Strength and Coordination! 🌟
In today’s session, we challenged our client to walk in swim flippers while navigating balance tasks! 🏃♂️🐬
Swim flippers are a fun and effective therapy tool that help promote:
✨ Increased ankle and foot strength
✨ Improved dorsiflexion (lifting the toes up)
✨ Better balance and postural control
✨ Enhanced body awareness and motor planning
✨ Improved gait mechanics by encouraging a heel-to-toe walking pattern
✨ Greater lower extremity strength and endurance
Adding hurdles or balance buckets takes the challenge even further by encouraging higher foot clearance, single-leg balance, coordination, and attention to movement patterns.
Most importantly, incorporating creative activities like this keeps therapy engaging while helping children build the foundational skills needed for success in everyday play and movement! 💙

🪜 Stair Milestones 🪜
When do kids start using stairs? There’s a general timeline—but no strict rules. Every child develops at their own pace, and stair skills build gradually over time.
You may see:
• Crawling or creeping up stairs
• Walking up with support
• Step-to pattern (two feet per step)
• Progressing to alternating feet (one foot per step)
These skills require strength, balance, coordination, and confidence—and they don’t all come at once!
If you have questions about your child’s gross motor development, Core Kids Pediatric Physical Therapy is here to help 🤍
