Chicago gives us about three weeks a year when every walk looks like a movie set. We are in it right now. 🍁
I put together my favorite spots to catch the color in the city and the suburbs, because you should not have to choose.
In the city, start with the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk for a quiet loop with skyline views. Then go to Lurie Garden for fall color with the Bean in the background.
In the suburbs, go to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle or the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. Wear real shoes. You will walk farther than you planned.
Worth the drive: Waterfall Glen in Darien and the Garden of the Phoenix in Jackson Park. Slower, quieter, and a little bit magical.
Timing tip: peak color usually lands between the middle of October and early November. The northern suburbs often turn first, so start there and work your way south.
