September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Since the 1990s, there have been significant advancements in prostate cancer treatments, offering patients more effective options with fewer side effects and improving survival rates after diagnosis.

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center recognized International Overdose Awareness Day last Friday. This annual observance is the world’s largest campaign to bring awareness to substance use disorders, remember those who have passed away and spread the message that overdoses are preventable.

Friday's event introduced our substance use navigator, Sylvia, and the important role she has supporting patients at Sharp Chula Vista who have substance use disorders. In this role, Sylvia educates patients and loved ones about substance use disorder, helps start treatment in the hospital, connects patients to follow-up care, and provides education to a patient's other care team members to ensure compassionate, quality care.

Sylvia and our entire Sharp Chula Vista team are committed to supporting those in our community who face substance use disorders.
